Man dies in fire at Wellampitiya

A 21-year-old man has died in a fire that broke out in four shops at the Avissawella Road, Wellampitiya on Saturday night, police said.

They said the fire had initially broken out at around 11.00 p.m Saturday and four shops were gutted.

Residents and the Welikada Fire Brigade teams doused the fire and the victim, a resident of Sedawatte, was injured in the fire and was pronounced dead after being admitted to the Colombo National Hospital.

Police said the cause of the fire is yet unknown.
