Man dies after being hit by car on Southern Expressway

Colombo, April 29 (Daily Mirror) - A 41-year-old man died after being struck by a car while inspecting his broken-down vehicle on the Southern Expressway near Kahathuduwa last evening.

Police said the man had stepped out of his vehicle and was standing next to it when another car, travelling in the same direction, collided with him, causing fatal injuries.

The driver and two passengers in the second car sustained injuries and were admitted to the Homagama Hospital for treatment.

Kahathuduwa Police are conducting further investigations.

Lack of knowledge on how to deal with a broken down vehicle on a motorway has caused an unnecessary death. Driver training and testing system in SL is so poor and corrupt, people start driving with just knowing how to rotate the steering wheel. And the lack of respect or concern for safety measures is prevalent in the typical flipflop roamers of the country.

It was a stupid action by the man to step out on the car to inspect it on a highway. Normally you must stop the vehicle on the emergency stop area or away from the 2 lanes. He must have stopped the vehicle on the middle of the road. These accidents happen even in other developed countries if someone stops a car on the middle of a busy highway.
