Man arrested for attempting to shoot fellow schoolmate in Negombo
Colombo, May 29 (Daily Mirror) - A 53-year-old man was arrested in Negombo for allegedly attempting to shoot a former schoolmate following an argument, police said.
The incident occurred in the Thaladuwa area of Negombo after a heated dispute between the two men, both 53 years old, who had reportedly studied at the same school.
According to police, the altercation stemmed from a disagreement over political matters that initially unfolded in a WhatsApp group chat.
It was reported that the suspect had arrived at the location armed with a pistol and fired a shot into the air in an attempt to intimidate his former classmate. A video circulating on social media shows the two individuals involved in a physical scuffle before the weapon was discharged.
Police confirmed that the suspect was taken into custody shortly after the incident. No injuries were reported.
Further investigations into the incident are underway.
