Colombo, Sep 16 (Daily Mirror) - A shocking incident of animal cruelty has been reported from Bhagwanthalawa, where security camera footage captured a dog being chased away with hot water while it was sleeping in front of a shop yesterday (15).

The dog, belonging to a local businessman, reportedly accompanies its owner to town each day and returns home with him in the evening.

According to eyewitnesses, the animal had been lying quietly in front of a shop without disturbing anyone when the owner of a nearby scrap metal shop poured hot water on it.

Residents said the dog screamed in pain and ran away after being scalded.

Bhagwanthalawa Acting OIC, Inspector Nuwan Madhusanka, confirmed that the dog’s owner lodged a complaint regarding the incident. He added that the injured animal would be presented to a veterinarian for a medical report, after which steps will be taken to arrest the suspect and produce him before the Hatton Magistrate’s Court.
