Colombo, Oct. 13 (Daily Mirror) - The majority of hospitalizations in Sri Lanka are caused by accidents, many of which are preventable, Health and Media Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said.
He said that reducing such accidents would benefit both the national health system and the country’s economy.
The Minister made these remarks during a special public awareness walk held last morning (12).
The event, held under the patronage of Dr. Jayatissa, aimed to engage the community and recognize the efforts of medical staff treating accident victims.
The walk commenced at Colombo National Hospital, passed through Viharamaha Devi Park, and concluded at Independence Square.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Jayatissa urged that as the country progresses economically, accident prevention measures should be implemented across all sectors.
He further expressed hope that educating the public and active involvement of health personnel would reduce the number of accidents and ease the burden on hospitals.
