Colombo, June 9 (Daily Mirror) - Former Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage, who was sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment by the Colombo High Court Trial-at-Bar, has filed an appeal before the Supreme Court challenging the legality of the judgment delivered on May 29.
In his appeal, Aluthgamage stated that he is seeking the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court to review and set aside the conviction and the sentence imposed by the High Court on May 29.
The Colombo High Court Trial-at-Bar had sentenced former Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment, and former Lanka Sathosa Chairman Nalin Fernando to 25 years of rigorous imprisonment, after finding them guilty of causing a financial loss to the government exceeding Rs. 53 million.
