Mahapola Scholarship to be increased



Colombo, Nov. 7 (Daily Mirror) - Presenting the 2026 Budget in Parliament, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake said that the Mahapola Scholarship will be increased by Rs. 2,500, bringing the total monthly allowance to Rs. 10,000.

Presenting the 2026 Budget in Parliament, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake said the move aims to ease the financial burden on undergraduates and ensure equal access to higher education.

In addition, a special monthly allowance of Rs. 5,000 will be granted to differently-abled children pursuing higher education, on top of the Mahapola Scholarship.

The President said these measures are part of the government’s broader effort to promote inclusive education and empower youth through improved financial assistance schemes.
