Colombo, June 9 (Daily Mirror) - (RDA) has announced that the Ma Oya Bridge will be closed to all vehicle traffic from 8.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. today (9) to facilitate debris removal operations following the impact of Cyclone Ditwa.
According to the RDA's Executive Engineering Division in Nittambuwa, the work will include the removal of bamboo bushes, tree roots and other debris that accumulated around the bridge during recent adverse weather conditions.
Motorists travelling through the area have been advised to use alternative routes during the closure period.
Vehicles travelling from Pannala to Colombo via Giriulla Bridge are advised to travel through Bopitiya, Mallawalana Junction and Kotadeniya Road to reach Colombo Road.
Those travelling from Kurunegala to Colombo should use the route via Maharagama, Boyawalana Junction, Nawalwatta, Ambepussa and Kandalama before joining Giriulla Road at Haddamulla Junction.
Meanwhile, vehicles travelling from Colombo to Kurunegala and Giriulla via Giriulla Bridge should turn onto Mirigama Road at Haddamulla Junction and proceed through Kandalama, Ambepussa Govipola, Nawalwatta, Boyawalana and Maharagama before rejoining the Kurunegala-Negombo Road.
Motorists travelling from Colombo and Nittambuwa towards Negombo have been advised to use Mallawalana Road near the Kotadeniya Clock Tower to access Negombo Road.
The RDA urged the public to cooperate with the temporary traffic restrictions and use the designated alternative routes to minimise delays while the debris removal work is underway.
