MP Ponnambalam granted bail

Tamil National Peoples Front (TNPF) leader and MP Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam who was arrested over an incident in Jaffna between him and the police, was granted bail by the Kilinochchi Magistrate's Court.

He was granted bail with a surety of Rs. 500,000.

The MP was arrested this morning by the officers of Maruthankerni and Jayapuram Police stations.

He was produced before the court after recording a statement.

The Kilinochchi magistrate earlier imposed an overseas travel ban on the MP and ordered him to issue a statement to the Maruthankerni Police.

The racists in the south are trying to get more votes by targeting the Tamil MP. MP Ponnambalam even had gun pointed at him by police during the incident. All what police did was excessive and wrong. Already the matter is even seen by British MPs, and Sri Lanka will be doubled down about war crimes as clear things are the same, at the next UN HRC.

When a person claims to be CID in plain clothes, under SL's present environment, no one would believe that he is a police officer. So demanding to show the identity is legal. If the person does not show the ID then holding him until the police arrive is also legal. Where is the justice here? Should the judges go back to Law College again?
