Mar. 29 (FPJ) - Hardik Pandya received a hostile reception from the crowd in Ahmedabad and Hyderabad as he was booed during the toss and also subjected to jeers throughout the match.

Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya has been in the news for all the wrong reasons ever since the start of the team's campaign in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Pandya faced a backlash from MI fans for replacing Rohit Sharma as a captain.

Hardik Pandya received a hostile reception from the crowd in Ahmedabad and Hyderabad as he was booed during the toss and also subjected to jeers throughout the match. To make it worse, the all-rounder didn't have a good start to start to his captaincy debut with Mumbai Indians as the five-time IPL champions lost to two back to back of the ongoing IPL season.

The fans and analysts have been closely monitoring and watching every move of Hardik Pandya on the field. Even off the field, Pandya cannot escape from the scrutiny. In a video went viral on social media, Hardik Pandya was seen seemingly refusing to shake hand with Lasith Malinga and shoved him away after Mumbai Indians defeat to SunRisers Hyderabad in Hyderabad.

Another video featuring MI skipper Hardik Pandya and bowling coach Lasith Malinga also went viral on social media. In the video, the all-rounder was seen standing when batting coach offered a sit to him. However, Malinga stood up and gave a seat to Hardik Pandya.

Lasith Malinga and Kieron Pollard is legend of cricket. They have done better than Hardik Pandya for their national team as well for Mumbai Indians too.
Asking them to leave chair is not good behaviour.

Hardik Pandya's behaviour and attitude have been heavily scrutnized by the fans ever since his walked out of the field as the new Mumbai Indians captain in IPL 2024. The recent videos of alleged rift between Hardik Pandya and Lasith Malinga sparked anger and outrage among the fans, saying that all-rounder was disrespecting former Sri Lanka pace bowling legend. He was also slammed for his change in attitude after becoming MI captain.

Hardik Pandya's captaincy was questioned after Mumbai Indians' thrashing defeat against SunRisers Hyderabad. The experts questioned the all-rounder for not bringing Jasprit Bumrah into the attack when Heinrich Klassen (80*) and Aiden Markram (42*) were going brutal on the MI bowling attack.

Pandya had a forgettable outing not just as a captain but as a player as well. With the ball, he picked a wicket while conceding 46 runs with an economy rate of 11.50 in four overs and with the, Hardik scored just 24 off 20 balls at a strike rate of 120.

Hardik Pandya will be scrutinized by Mumbaikars when Mumbai Indians take on Rajasthan Royals on April 1, Monday at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

I am not at all surprised by this news. I have worked in India via an international company based in Mumbai many years ago and I have experienced Indians treating me as an unimportant entity even though I was in a senior position. I lived altogether for five years in Mumbai, what I can say for sure is deep down ALL INDIANS THINK OF SRI LANKANS AS DESCENDANTS OF EVIL KING RAVANA WHO KIDNAPPED THIR PRINCESS. This is a myth but in India this story is taught in schools as true history.

Sir, I thank your paper for highlighting this disgraceful treatment of a Sri Lankan legend by the Indian cricketer . This shows where Sri Lanka stands in the perception of the Indians. There is no respect for Sri Lanka in India. Our corrupt politicians are always “Yes Sir” to the Indian politicians , our professional military leaders “ fall at the feet “ of Indian military officers, and all our news media always praising India. Sir, this has to stop, we Sri Lankans have a much better history than the Indians, we were not ruled for thousand years by the Muslims and our country women were never raped by foreign invaders to produce light skin people some with even blue eyes. We should be proud to be Sri Lankans whether we are Sinhalese, Tamils, or Muslims. All our sportsmen should be taught little about our great history compared to the terrible Indian history. Bring in Arujuna Ranatunga and put him in total charge of Sri Lankan cricket. He is the only person who can inject “pride and self worth” to all Sri Lankan cricketers and ex- cricketers. He understands the psychology of the Indians, that was why he was wholly opposed to Sri Lankan cricketers joining the IPL as players or officials. Arujuna is a legend and it is outrageous that he is being sidelined by Sri Lankan government to please the Indians. Sri Lanka needs heroes not India worshipers.

I have just had a look at the two videos. I don't think he shoved off Malinga. He just tapped him on the shoulders. In the second video, Pollard was about to offer the seat, but Malinga got up and offered the seat. It is undersrandable, as the player must be tired after being on the field. Please don't make a mountain out of a mole hill.

It's a big mistake by the Mumbai Indian selectors to appoint H.Pandya as captain. Understandable reason for finding a successor to the senior player like Sharma for the future, I feel its too early as Sharma has been scoring runs and has s lot of cricket in him. A well experienced captain having led Indian team to greater heights n also won 5 titles for the franchise. When selecting a captain to lead an important side, the character, integrity, several past experiences as a leader, his relationship and respect for the team mates, selectors, ex-team players etc., should be considered. Winning matches contributes to all these matters and also depends on 11 players and not one individual. Unfortunately, these factors were not considered. The best option now is to remove him immediately and reappoint Rohit as the captain for the remaining matches. Otherwise the motivation of the team is very low and they may not give their 100%
