COLOMBO (Daily Mirror) - The low-pressure area over the South-east Bay of Bengal adjoining Andaman and Nicobar Islands has intensified into a depression and lies centered today, the Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre of the Meteorology Department said.
They said the low-pressure area is likely to move north-north-westward and intensify into a deep depression over the west-central Bay of Bengal sea area tomorrow.
The wind speed will be 45 kmph and can increase up to 60 kmph in coastal areas.
However, heavy showers and rough or very rough seas can also be expected in the above-sea areas, the Department said.
Therefore, the naval and fishing communities are advised not to venture out to sea during the next 24 hours. Those who are out in the aforementioned sea regions are advised to return to the coasts or move to safer areas immediately.
