Low-pressure area forms over South-east Bay of Bengal

COLOMBO (Daily MIrror) - Naval and fishing communities are advised not to venture out to sea as a low-pressure area has formed over the southeast Bay of Bengal adjoining Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre of the Meteorology Department said.

They said the low-pressure area is likely to move west-northwest wards and intensify into a depression over the West Central Bay of Bengal within the next 24 hours.

Therefore, the Meteorology Department requests that those who are out in the aforementioned sea regions return to land or move to safer areas immediately.

The fishing and naval communities are requested to be attentive to future forecasts issued by the Department of Meteorology in this regard.

The wind speed will be a maximum of 45 kmph and can increase up to 55 kmph in coastal areas.

Heavy showers or thundershowers and rough or very rough seas can also be expected in these sea areas.
