Colombo, January 3 (Daily Mirror) - Showery conditions are expected to enhance in Eastern, Northern and Uva Provinces during the coming days, due to the development of a low-level atmospheric disturbance to the East of Sri Lanka, Department of Meteorology said yesterday.
Showers are expected at times in Eastern, Central, North-central and Uva Provinces and in the Hambantota District. Fairly heavy falls above 75 mm are likely at some places in Central and Uva Provinces and in Batticaloa and Ampara Districts as per the Meteorological Department forecast. Several spells of showers will occur in Northern Province.
Commenting on the development, Malith Fernando, Climatologist of the Department of Methodology ruled out the possibility of the disturbance converting in to a low pressure situation. Mr. Fernando in his latest social media post said rains exceeding 100 mm could be expected during the coming days.
A few showers may occur in coastal areas of North-western and Western Provinces and in Galle and Matara Districts.
Misty conditions can be expected at some places in Sabaragamuwa and Central Provinces and in Galle and Matara Districts during the early hours of the morning.
Meanwhile, somewhat heavy rains were reported in some parts of the country yesterday with the highest fall of 83mm recorded from Bibile, 56mm from Nochchiyagama, 54mm from Hettipola, Rantambe 20mm, Bowatenna 35mm, Samanalawewa 47mm.
