Colombo, September 23 (Daily Mirror) - The Colombo Lotus Tower plans to launch a bungee jumping programme by next year, Chairman Shirantha Pieris announced today.
Addressing the media, he said the programme will be introduced with maximum safety measures to ensure the protection of participants.
He also recalled the tragic incident of October 7, 2024, in which a young student lost her life, describing it as a moment of deep sorrow for the Tower and the entire nation. “While the Tower has always maintained international safety standards, the new management acted swiftly to strengthen safeguards further,” Pieris said.
Among the measures taken, a steel mesh barrier was installed around the Observation Deck, security personnel were increased, and CCTV surveillance was enhanced across key areas. These steps, along with revised protocols and heightened monitoring, reaffirm the Colombo Lotus Tower Management Company’s (CLTMC) commitment to prioritising visitor safety, security, and well-being, he added.
The Colombo Lotus Tower and Singapore Go Bungy Company earlier signed a contract to start bungee jumping for the first time in Sri Lanka, which will become the world’s highest bungee jump after it is launched.
