Lotus Tower nets over Rs. 7 mn from visits by public

The Lotus Tower Management said that they have earned over Rs.7 million until yesterday from the date the tower was opened for public viewing, Lotus Tower Head of Management, Prasad Samarasinghe said.

He said more than 6,800 tickets have been sold by 8.00 pm last night.

With the arrival of a large number of people, there was a heavy traffic witnessed in the Lotus Tower compound.

The tower administration had to temporarily halt issuing tickets on several occasions as the number of visitor turn out was much higher last night.

Samarasinghe said that some Rs.7 million have been earned by yesterday from the date the Lotus Tower opened for public viewing.

Only Rs.500-tickets are issued to visit the Lotus Tower at present, and the tower is open for public viewing from 2.00 pm to 11.00 pm on week days and from 12.00 noon to 12.00 midnight during weekends. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)

If it wasn't open, it would not even earn 1%. This should have been opened a long time ago. Whether this is a worthwhile project is a separate debate. Once built, it should have been put into good use to earn an income.

This works out to 3500 tickets x 4days x500 = 7,000,000. Somewhere it is stated that they have sold 6,800 tickets upto 8.00 pm but it is not clear whether that is for the day itself or cummulatively. So it is not clear. Please clarify.
