Local Authorities Elections (Special Provisions) Bill approved by Parliament

Local Authorities Elections (Special Provisions) Bill was passed by a two-thirds majority in Parliament today.
Some 187 MPs voted in favour of the Bill during the vote on the second reading while 158 voted for during the third reading.
The Bill provides provisions to call fresh nominations for the local government polls.
Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne endorsed the Bill as soon as it was approved by the House.
