Legal action will be taken against the ministry's decision to increase the electricity tariff by 66%, Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) Chairman Janaka Rathnayake said.

While addressing the media via Zoom from Australia, he said that he had not authorized the tariff increase.

However, the CEB had mentioned in a letter that the decision was taken as a collective decision by the PUCSL.

However, the PUCSL previously proposed a 36% electricity tariff, but it is unethical and illegal to increase the tariff while putting a burden on people, he said. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)

Just look after your private condo business and stop draining the pockets of other users. Enough is enough, all should pay a fair price. We don't want to pay a higher price to fund the bills of your properties. Period! They guy who cries about his less than 30 unit bill will be clueless as to what's going on. You are fooling them to satisfy your business needs! Legal action should be taken by us against the PUCSL. Not by you!

PUCSL chairman is trying to become a hero by pandering to some people and political parties by trying to controversial just for the sake of it. Perhaps he's more interested in getting into politics in future instead acting on the responsibilities of his post.
