President Ranil Wickremesinghe said new laws will be introduced to transform the Port City into the Colombo Financial Zone, granting it jurisdiction over offshore activities.

The President speaking at the 2023 Commercial Mediation Symposium held at the Hilton Hotel in Colombo said this legislation is expected to be enacted by the end of the year.

Can someone explain in layman's terms what this project is all about because it is evolving not clearly understood.We have the Port City which is a visible block of land jutting out to the city and some infrastucture for leisure activities currently?There is a proposed international university and I imagine a financial offshore centre in the making which is probably the ultimate aim.I doubt anybody here has the wherewithal to do these things so it will mean inviting foreign investors
