Large scale scam behind liquor bottle sticker production : COPF chief

Colombo, July 20 (Daily Mirror) - There is a large scale scam behind the liquor bottle production and it's worth eight times more than the amount which is spent annually for the Suwaseriya ambulance scheme, Chairman of Committee on Public Finance Harsha de Silva said.

" I asked the officers responsible for the production of stickers the other day during the COPF meeting and they assured that there is no issue as everything is under control. However the recent raid where illegal liquor was uncovered proved that there is a scam of producing false stickers" the MP told media.

Citing an example he said the state is losing Rs 3600 from a bottle of old arrack though the taxes comes to Rs 1600 as those who produce false arrack do not pay any taxes and because their income is not accounted for.
