Colombo, July 25 (Daily Mirror) - An attempt to smuggle large one kilo cocaine slabs was thwarted for the first time in Bandaranaike International Airport history, when Sri Lanka Customs seized a Canadian man carrying bulk of Cocaine and Hashish worth around Rs.395 million this morning.
Customs Narcotic Control Unit Officials stationed at the BIA Arrival Terminal on suspicion searched a Caucasian male passenger who had arrived in the country around 2.05am and found Hashish weighing 12Kg 196grams and five Cocaine slabs weighing 5Kg 310grams from his checked baggage.
The seized Cocaine has been valued at Rs.212 million and the large stock of Hashish has been valued at Rs.183 million, thus the smuggled drugs bore a total street value of Rs.395 million.
The passenger who had commenced his journey from Montreal had flown to Doha and had taken Qatar Airways flight QR 662, which had arrived in Katunayake around 2.05am.
Following the preliminary Customs investigations the foreigner along with the contraband was to be handed over to the Police Narcotic Bureau (PNB) officials at the BIA for further legal proceedings.
