LPL 2026 to proceed as scheduled despite Jaffna Kings owner’s arrest

Colombo, July 17 (Daily Mirror) - Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has confirmed that the Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2026 will commence as scheduled this evening at the SSC Grounds in Colombo, despite the reported arrest of a co-owner of the Jaffna Kings franchise by the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) for the Prevention of Offences Relating to Sports.

In a statement, SLC said it would extend its fullest cooperation to the SIU should any assistance be sought in connection with the ongoing investigation.

The cricket board reiterated its zero-tolerance policy towards corruption, misconduct and any unethical practices involving stakeholders associated with the tournament, stressing that it remains committed to protecting the integrity of the league.

SLC also said it has taken all necessary measures to ensure the tournament is conducted in accordance with the highest ethical and integrity standards. Its Anti-Corruption Unit has been working closely with the SIU to strengthen the league's anti-corruption framework ahead of the tournament.

In addition, SLC has engaged Integrity Mentors, an independent anti-corruption and sports integrity organisation, to provide specialist integrity support and education throughout the competition.
