LP Gas prices increased due to global market surge

Colombo, April 5, Daily Mirror - Due to rising global energy costs linked to the ongoing international conflict, Litro Gas Lanka Company has announced an increase in domestic LP gas prices with effect from midnight today.

The company said the surge in world market prices has significantly raised import costs. However, taking into account the upcoming New Year season and the increasing cost of living, it has opted to limit the price hike without passing the full burden onto consumers.

Accordingly, the revised prices for the Colombo District are as follows:

  • 12.5kg cylinder: Increased by Rs. 775 to Rs. 4,765
  • 5kg cylinder: Increased by Rs. 308 to Rs. 1,910
  • 2.3kg cylinder: Increased by Rs. 140 to Rs. 890

Meanwhile, Litro assured that adequate stocks are available to ensure uninterrupted supply. The company said that 38,000 metric tons of LP gas ordered for April are currently in floating storage in the Maldives, enabling continuous islandwide distribution.

It further said that the vessel Luigi Galvani is nearing the Maldives carrying 20,000 metric tons, while the Freycinet vessel has departed South America with an additional 20,000 metric tons. These shipments are expected to maintain steady supply through May.

Chairman Channa Gunawardena said the company remains committed to ensuring uninterrupted supply despite global challenges.
