Colombo, Feb. 15 (Daily Mirror)- The LGBTIQ+ community representatives breifed Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana on the issues faced by the LGBTIQ+ community in Sri Lanka.

A group of Sri Lankan LGBTIQ+ community representatives met with Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana recently in Parliament, the Communications Department of Parliament said.

They had drawn the attention of the Speaker regarding the Private Member's Bill brought in by MP Premnath C. Dolawatte to amend Sections 365 and 365A of the Penal Code of Sri Lanka.

A private member's Bill to amend the penal code in favour of the LGBT Q plus people was presented to Parliament by MP Premanath Dolawatta in April last year, which seeks to amend the penal code in support of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and others.

Lgbt is a mental illness and we should not give them any rights. Almost all thrse lgbt people have been sexual abused when they were younger age and thsi is where this confusion start. No...they are not born gay or born in the wrong body. People should give them mental help.
