What's the point calling a certain time in a period which is called "new" every year when humans had made all these and started calling it time,day,moth,year from one point. There is no different between dec31 and Jan1 when the earth is rotating itself for 4.5B years. Just enjoy the holiday....That's all.

I have also heard that Kiribati is the first inhabited country to see the New Year. It is just another day as someone else suggested. We as a global citizen are full of shit that has been fed by commercial interests. It is time to get back to basics.

Countries with tax increases on 1 January should not be celebrating, as 1 January is just a date, and now it bring greater burden to the public. Surely Kiritimati is not like our despot run country, and people can genuinely celebrate a New Year. Our public should be cursing government for extra tax it put on our country this year.
