Students are students .Treat them as your own children..some time university staff are so arrogant and they don't them well..respect students to earn respect from them . Age gap should be considered. University staff need some lesson in child psychology and even some counselling how to deal with students

The university would have not closed if the students didn't create a violent situation. Students shouldn't be hooligans and assaulting people. All should be respected. All students found guilty should be kicked out. What waste of taxpayers money. Cost of free education. Dolly

They are NOT students but badly brought up and politically influenced RUFFIANS.

Discipline in Sri Lankan Society??? This IS A BIG QUESTION MARK?????? Absent in every aspect of Life!!!??? Just as a SINGLE IMPORTANT EXAMPLE, consider, these emancipated individually and collectively, 'CROSSING THE ROAD' from one side to the other!!!??? NOT DISCIPLINED at all!!! They don’t consider this aspect as important to their LIFE and well-being of society at large!!?? What More could one expect this Society?? Ignoring Societal NEEDS? Decay commenced since ‘70’s! "WHAT LOW LIFE”??? FOLLOWING UNBUDDHISTIC TENETS"?? Disgrace!!!??? Cause bad example set – Elected LEADERS being INDISCIPLINED!!!???

JVP achievements, these are the guys you want to appoint to run the country?

I still remember in 1974 or 1975 all the security staff at Japura were chased out at midnight and the student council took over. Those were the days.

Why are we penalising students for violent behaviour that is condoned, encouraged, permitted, developed and an integral component of our 2500 year culture.

    Ram Tuesday, 05 December 2023 03:50 AM

Medical faculty to run as usual and others to go home amounts to discrimination. WHY treat the students of other faculties differently

    Convert them to warehouses.

Identify the students who are responsible. Kick them out. They are using tax payers money to fund the educations. Get rid of the trouble makers.

Lanka, you have sadly mistaken the present younger generation. Even by giving respect they don't know how to accept it and their mindset and attitude needs a huge facelift.

The hatred and violence was brought to the U's primarily in the 1970's by the JVP. The Testosterone rush at this age is used by the movement since then. A Pirivena rooted U should be following Buddha's teaching of non-violence. Instead the politicians use the students to bring them to power and to remain there after that. My observation has been that the students from the 'have-nots' enter the U's with a vendetta against the 'Haves'. They spew venom from the time they get in without trying to make their lives better by working hard. The JVP has taught them that their problem is rooted with the people who have gotten there with hard work and grey matter (majority of them). This is the result.

The lands of universities are part of the country. So the common law should apply. It is about time to establish Police or Army posts at every university to safeguard the education and the lives of innocent students.

Led by the nose Tuesday, 05 December 2023 06:42 AM

It is sad and frightening to see these misguided students, who may one day aspire to be our political leaders. Can they be entrusted with that burden? They always need to be led by the nose, and our corrupt politicians are doing it fine.

Empathy, tolerance, patience, none of these things are taught or practiced in schools nor at homes! It's always a case of competing with each other, whether it's between students, friends and sadly even between siblings! Books are not what students learn from, they learn from what they see at a young age. Practice and show examples of these things to kids and we will be able to see a more disciplined society! Very sad state of affairs among children, youth and even adults these days!

    Quolp Tuesday, 05 December 2023 11:41 AM

Ah.... well-disciplined students. No other Universities in the world ever produce such students studying in Sri Lanka.

    Dee Tuesday, 05 December 2023 11:47 AM

Why do the tax payers have to finance these low life offspring of subversives? However educated they are made- is not going to change their mentality. They will remain as is, they have ruined the public sector and will ruin the private sector.
