Colombo, April 16 (Daily Mirror) - Since the remanding of former Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella, the two official vehicles provided to him while he was Minister are still being used by his family members, a Health Ministry official alleged.
He claimed that the official residence provided to the former Minister at Wijerama Mawatha has also not been handed over yet.
If a public official is in remand custody, all the privileges he has received will be revoked immediately. Hence, the official questioned why former Minister Rambukwella is being given special consideration.
The official also alleged that the family members of Minister Rambukwella, who is on remand, come to the Welikada Prison in the same official vehicles.
A Toyota Prado and a Mercedes-type vehicle are being used by his family members to visit him.
The official disclosed that more than 600 vehicles were missing, and it is suspicious that these vehicles could still be being used by the family members of former Health Ministers.

What the heck. Isn't that one of the first things that should happen, to collect all the assets on his temporary custody? Whose responsibility is it to monitor and ensure it does happen?

Of course his family needs these vehicles for their personal transport as he will be released soon. What a wonder of Asia is this corrupt country. No one will ever make a stand for justice and the restitution of stolen money. As with Marcos and the Phillipines it will all be a farce.

It is strange that the Ministry cannot trace 600 odd vehicles. They are given to individuals, so request those who received them to return and of not returned file action in court. If RW is genuinely interested in protecting public money he must give directions ASAP to recover the vehicles

My words for this type of situation are unprintable. Can we see any end to these types of situations, by the present system, which the government and main opposition are trying to maintain? Just yesterday we heard about some MPs asking for Duty Free vehicles before elections.

There is no need to hand over the vehicle because once Keheliya is out of prison and guilty or not, he will be appointed a Minister again and can keep the vehicle as Prasnna Ranatunga who was imposed a heavy fine and a suspended prison sentence by the Courts still serves as a Minister and keeps the vehicle and all the benefits.
