Keheliya to be indicted over import of substandard Immunoglobulin

Colombo, June 3 (Daily Mirror) - The Attorney General has informed the Supreme Court that former Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella and several others accused in the controversial importation of substandard human immunoglobulin vaccines will be formally indicted before a three-judge bench of the High Court next week.

Deputy Solicitor General Nirmalan Wigneswaran, appearing on behalf of the Attorney General, made this announcement during a Supreme Court hearing on a Fundamental Rights petition linked to the case. The petition, which names Rambukwella and several others as respondents, challenges the procurement of drugs from two unregistered Indian pharmaceutical companies under the Indian credit line.

The Fundamental Rights petitions were filed by Transparency International Sri Lanka and Lionel Guruge, a Senior Research Officer at the Centre for Policy Alternatives, raising concerns over irregularities and violations in the drug procurement process during Rambukwella’s tenure.
