Colombo, March 15 (Daily Mirror)- Former Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella, currently held in remand custody in connection with the alleged import of substandard Immunoglobulin injections, has sought bail from the Colombo High Court.

Filing a bail application through a lawyer, the former Health Minister is requesting the Colombo High Court that he be released on whatever bail conditions court deems fit.

In his application, Keheliya Rambukwella alleged that the Maligakanda Magistrate, on a number of occasions has refused to grant bail and made remand orders without reasonable grounds.

The Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court yesterday (14) remanded Keheliya and ten others till March 28 in connection with this incident.

You seek bail. But Patients who seek medicine from you was sent to heaven.

Personally I feel, he should never be given bail. Many times crimes thefts done by people who may not have food to eat etc. We don't expect a Mahanayake or a Bishop or any other high religious dignitary to kill another man as it is completely opposite to what they preach. Similarly, Health minister should do utmost to preserve life, but his actions had a potential to kill poor patients- just the opposite. Such are worse than 'ordinary' criminals. From a position of authority and responsibility, if they do such, the punishment should be maximum !!!

You should compensate each and every family who lost members by taking fake drugs imported by you before asking for bail.

    Jayampathi Friday, 15 March 2024 04:12 PM

I don't want to accuse anyone until the court determines who did the fraudulent transactions. But whoever did it is absolutely inhuman and needs the most severe punishment for bringing sorrow to the families of victims and having a total disregard to good morals, integrity and responsibility.

If he has done this , the judgment of the God will come to him even in this world.

    Gamini Friday, 15 March 2024 04:27 PM

The crime you have committed is a very serious one which does not warrant a bail. So the magistrate does not have to give any reasonable ground for his action

How can a person who was responsible for bringing drugs into the country which killed people allowed bail? Hope sanity prevails through High Court

    Anthony. R Friday, 15 March 2024 05:04 PM

Pay for your sins. Let sanity prevail in the Judiciary.

    Wagner Friday, 15 March 2024 05:21 PM

He should not be given bail at all if HC gives bail people will lose faith in the Judiciary system

This man is a criminal from the offset. When the crooks circle, Pohottuwa was created, he duly joined. After the spotlight moves onto the next scandal, he'll be duly released to enjoy the illgotten wealth for the rest of his meaningless life.

    Bail for criminals?

    Kps Friday, 15 March 2024 06:40 PM

You being a Head of the most important ministry in Srilanka , must be punished fully according to the law set an example for the rest of the politicians.

What quick bail for a man with education, background and wealth when poor illiterate citizens by coercion or circumstances beyond their control like poverty, political environments in their village, forced them to join both northern and southern terrorists and face continuous jail for many years without bail, some may have even not committed any wrong act. The law must look at the big whole picture and see how people with education and background committing crimes is far more serious than an illiterate poor fellow robbing a few hundred rupees in a bus. All are wrong, but never spare the fellow who had the advantage of education and good social background.

If he is released on bail all who are accused of murder should be released on bail. Can some civic minded lawyer argue this for all accused?

    ravin Friday, 15 March 2024 10:04 PM

Let's see how best we can depend on law of the country with out reasonable doughty.

    Gabriella Friday, 15 March 2024 10:13 PM

This is the standard ploy. The police pretend they are not ready to proceed. The magistrate cannot continue to extend bail indefinitely. When Mullakelliya is bailed the case will be delayed indefinitely until suitable “arrangements” can be made and, a pliable judge appointed.

You are a disgrace, you should be sent for life in jail.

    Mahesh Saturday, 16 March 2024 01:42 AM

Criminals are out and innocents are inside. This is how the political power works in reality.

    Hadiran Saturday, 16 March 2024 08:19 AM

Keheliya in the first place shouldn't have accepted health minister port folio which is very sensitive and life threatening to general public since he is ignorant on a complex subject like drug management issues

    Gamini Saturday, 16 March 2024 09:17 AM

while he certainly does not deserve bail, if not given bail he will be enjoying in the hospital with pretended illness at tax payers expense

    Robbie Saturday, 16 March 2024 09:42 AM

Let lhe law and order take the total responsibility to punish all perpetrators and provide justice and make sure never repeat ever again ....

Gamapala Punnakkuge Saturday, 16 March 2024 10:10 AM

Seek bail from Myna or Yamaraja! Then Kaputa can take you there with Kappamthunga.

Roberta Flack Saturday, 16 March 2024 11:24 AM

Give him bail men! because all the rogues in government are anyway out Scott free and being jail has become a privilege.

    Navi Saturday, 16 March 2024 12:51 PM

Heavens will not grant his bail leave alone the hearing. Ms. Lochii Abeywickreme the Magistrate is on top of the situation standing firm with a good grasp of the facts of the case. Hope, the High Court Judges will not yield and go against the Maligakanda Magistrate's decision. For once we have a sound Magistrate who stands uip to corruption. People must demand from the Govt to keep this Magistrate right to the end of the case.

    K. Ranaweera Saturday, 16 March 2024 12:57 PM

You deserve not BAIL but JAIL. For citizen's WAIL.

    Dharmatileke Saturday, 16 March 2024 01:24 PM

No bail taste the prison food, they are quality food unlike low quality drugs you authorised

    Sherly Saturday, 16 March 2024 02:29 PM

Those expensive medicines for terminally ill patients to live another couple of months more,KR and his sin team profited by both, their quick death certain so nobody doubts it’s due to rogue medicine but probably sorry, even after prescribing such expensive drug patient won’t cure due to his karma, but KR and team collecting profit out of their deaths
