I feel so sad for this honourable man. He did such great service to the nation but was led astray by the drug mafia. Get well soon sir.

    DJ Sunday, 04 February 2024 11:43 AM

    What?

Gokula Siripathi arachchi Sunday, 04 February 2024 12:21 PM

Are you for real?? This heartless fellow who said that its natural for people to die in hospitals and also said that is the reason there are funeral parlous near hospitals. Even if what you are saying is true he is not a baby to be led astray...it's people like you are continue to support and go behind these clowns that are holding our country back

    Citizen k Sunday, 04 February 2024 12:50 PM

Please remember the deaths and people going blind .If he is an honourable man then I have no words to describe an honourable man.

DO THE CRIME THEN BE READY TO FACE THE TIME Sunday, 04 February 2024 02:25 PM

If you claim this man was honorable and did service to our people, well GOODBYE to his honorability and good service. Citizens have now shown the other side of this so-called honorable man, greed and get rich quick has put him where he is today, people have died and suffering as a result of the decisions he made as the saying goes " you make your own bed keep sleeping on it". In Sri Lamka crooks and people who operate with no honesty and integrity always end up trying to pass the buck onto someone else, sad but TRUE.

    Are you lost your senses?

Tissa Fernando Sunday, 04 February 2024 07:42 PM

You are probably one of the persons profited from this whole scandal. That is why you are sorry.

    Neil Monday, 05 February 2024 07:28 AM

This women must be an off-spring of Keheliya

Mohamed Adham Monday, 05 February 2024 03:51 PM

You really need to see a psycho doctor immediately, or you are the beneficiary of his shady deals. This scumbag has KILLED people, Mothers and children, and he is a HONORABLE man to you !!!!!!

    Ranjan Tuesday, 06 February 2024 07:14 AM

Nilimini, I recommend you to see a psychiatrist. Even his party people are against him

Bring disrepute to Health Service Sunday, 04 February 2024 07:53 AM

Will the doctors administer the very "substandard Immunoglobulin injections" to him. They have plenty of reasons to do that. One reason is for bringing disrepute to the Health Service in spite of dedicated health workers.

Delirium tremors Sunday, 04 February 2024 08:01 AM

Keheliya was admitted due alcohol withdrawal symptoms.

Bernard Jayatilake Sunday, 04 February 2024 08:16 AM

All the hidden illnesses surface from politicians' hitherto unhearef of and the best check-up for them is when they are convicted they are always admitted to hospitals citing various illnesses.

KR Supporter Sunday, 04 February 2024 08:18 AM

Whatever the illness Keheliya has, he would be fit enough to walk to the Courts by Feb 15th. If the Courts decide to adjourn the proceeding by 6 months, he will be sick for another 6 months but will be OK to walk to the Courts for that hearing as well. Keheliya has done so much for this country by saving money by purchasing drugs from black-listed drug companies albeit for higher Commissions and sometimes manufacturing drugs in the backyard drug factories in Sri Lanka thereby reducing the population of this highly populated country. Bravo Keheliya

Everybody knew that doctors are the most corrupt

    C.M.Fernando Sunday, 04 February 2024 02:25 PM

The Medical Certificate recommending hospitalising of remand prisoners can be reviewed by a Medical Panel. If the Medical Certification is questionable, the doctor responsible would be dealt with by the Sri Lanka Medical Council. It only needs to be raised in a formal way, and this affront to our legal system will cease overnight. If anyone feels that politicians and others are creeping through loopholes, please complain to the Sri Lanka Medical Council, and I am sure they would ensure the reliability of Medical Certificates by enforcing standards and warning all doctors on their list. That would surely stop this nonsense.

    Don Sunday, 04 February 2024 08:34 AM

I would like to know the name of the doctor to get a medical certificate when I am perfectly ok to hoodwink my boss in the office.

Be Fair Sunday, 04 February 2024 08:46 AM

Wonder who the great Doctor is?

    බැංකු හොරා Sunday, 04 February 2024 08:46 AM

What a joke? What is the illness? This system must be changed. A different doctor must him.

    Onlooker Sunday, 04 February 2024 08:52 AM

Standard Operating Procedure for VIPs in jail or remand or even convicted murderers. Reflection on our doctors who assist.

    Patient Sunday, 04 February 2024 09:19 AM

Now he has to be treated with sub standard medicine he imported.

    Sasikaran Sunday, 04 February 2024 09:21 AM

Doctors recommendations?? Then need to be given the medication he imported.

    Gabriella Sunday, 04 February 2024 09:34 AM

I bet the doctor got his qualifications in Bangladesh. Hope they are getting his (Mullakelliya) meals from a five star hotel. The magistrate should demand a second opinion from a Specialist. Politicians are making the judiciary a laughing stock.

    KP Sunday, 04 February 2024 11:06 AM

So all the politicians who ended up in prison hospitals were seen by a Bangalidesh doctor? It’s not your fault you were born stupid, but you don’t have to demonstrate your stupidity in public .

    Gabriella Sunday, 04 February 2024 09:34 AM

    M Fernando Sunday, 04 February 2024 09:44 AM

Hopefully he will not be given his own substandard medicines

    Gabriella Sunday, 04 February 2024 10:10 AM

These manoeuvrings by “bigwigs” make the judiciary a laughing stock. The magistrate should demand a Specialist report.

MAGESTRATE ORDER A SPECIALIST SECOND OPINION Sunday, 04 February 2024 02:35 PM

CORRECT. COURT/MAGESTRATE SHOULD ORDER A INDEPENDANT MEDICAL SPECIALIST RELATED TO WHATEVER MEDICAL ISSUE HE CLAIMS TO HAVE, WHEN PEOPLE ARE ILL OR CLAIM TO BE ILL THEY ARE USUALLY SEEN BY ANOTHER DOCTOR FOR A 2ND OPINION. IN THIS CASE WE MAY NEED A THIRD OPINION. THE PREDICTION OF MANY COMMENTS EARLIER WAS THAT HE WOULD BE ADMITTED TO HOSPITAL, LIKE A FEW OTHERS HAVE DONE IN THE PAST. DISHONEST AND MONEY HUNGRY PEOPLE ALWAYS END UP FAKING ILLNESSES TO GET OUT OF A SITUATION, A SECOND OPINION WOULD CLARIFY DETAILS OF WHAT EXACTLY HIS MEDICAL CONDITION IS TO CLEAR THE AIR.

    KP Sunday, 04 February 2024 11:10 AM

If a prisoner comes to a doctor with red flag symptoms, the doctor has no choice but to admit and investigate. The patient may be fit enough to go about usual daily activities, but not fit enough to be in prison.

An Impatient Patient Sunday, 04 February 2024 11:35 AM

This person has purchased medicines from black-listed companies in India because he would get higher Commissions from black-listed drug companies. Instead of importing Immunoglobulin injections, he got them manufactured by a 'so-called drug company' in Sri Lanka. This action has saved foreign exchange from Sri Lanka. Although many patients may have died after taking substandard medicines, Sri Lanka is highly overpopulated and he thought it is OK when patients die.

Gayantha Hemachandra Sunday, 04 February 2024 11:49 AM

This is the norm when it comes to the most corrupt and the most powerful while the least corrupt and the least powerful are languishing in “ real prisons” . Of course, everyone knew this would happen.

    Sokrates Sunday, 04 February 2024 11:54 AM

The doctor, who is so caring, will definitely provide him with well-chilled "medicinal" alcohol.

    saman Sunday, 04 February 2024 12:10 PM

Only in Sri Lanka. As soon our Ministers and MP are remanded they fall ill. Surprised, the sickness follows, when this accused is remanded, if not no?. Don't you think this need to be investigated? What is wrong with him. Where is the pain?

    Nihal S Sunday, 04 February 2024 12:27 PM

You must be next to Duminda Silva, go all the way with him - you robbed public money and risk people lives. Shame to your parents - who are from respectable families.

Another KR supporter Sunday, 04 February 2024 01:01 PM

Civil activists please consider the empathy of this minister towards his people, once he went to India himself ,spending out his own pocket to buy good medicine because officers are so corrupt

    DISGUSTED Sunday, 04 February 2024 04:29 PM

OBVIOUSLY IF YOU ARE A KR SUPPORTER YOU WOULD BRING THE INDIAN TRIP UP IN SUPPORT OF HIM, BUT THERE COULD BE OTHER REASONS AS TO WHY HE TRAVELLED TO INDIA!!! WHICH ARE FAR FROM YOUR LINE OF THINKING. IF HIS OFFICERS WERE "SO CORRUPT" WHY DIDN'T HE FIRE THEM, WHY KEEP CORRUPT STAFF ON THE BOOK? COME ON PUT YOUR THINKING CAP ON AND HEY! PRESTO YOU WILL GET THE ANSWER.

    D S de Silva Sunday, 04 February 2024 01:14 PM

It's a joke. The country can be fixed when the judiciary is straightend out.

    Chuti Sunday, 04 February 2024 01:43 PM

oooops..... what a surprise!!!! The 'influential' prisoners even if rarely seem to get the punishment they deserve, they any how escape to 'comfort' in prison hospital or any other such. Sadly, that is the justice in SL !!!!

    Ram Sunday, 04 February 2024 01:52 PM

This sick man is unfit to serve us as a Minister. there are many educated young politicians capable of doing the work that he does

Tak Tik Tik Sunday, 04 February 2024 02:03 PM

This procedure needs a change. Every time a MP is to be arrested, 1st they need to be sent to a Doctor to get his health cleared and then arrest them. That way no need luxury prison hospital.

Nadi Karunaratne Sunday, 04 February 2024 02:13 PM

Get well soon. Only a couple of days and you will be out. Judges and politicians mocking the people whose lives are made miserable by a parasitic and thuggish political class.

michael Perera Sunday, 04 February 2024 02:14 PM

What a joke. Just watch this guy wriggle out of this again! Total corruption.

Vive James Sunday, 04 February 2024 02:17 PM

Not only in 2048 even in 3048 we will be a poverty stricken 3rd world country Mr. PRESIDENT

    DISGUSTED Sunday, 04 February 2024 02:39 PM

UPTO DATE NOT A SINGLE PERSON AND OR THEIR STOOGES RESPONSIBLE DIRECTLY AND OR INDIRECTLY FOR THE DOWNFALL OF THE COUNTRY HAS BEEN CONVICTED, EVEN THE SC RULINGS HAVE BEEN SWEPT UNDER THE CARPET. HOW ON EARTH IS THE COUNTRY GOING TO GET BACK ON ITS FEET WITH CORRUPTION ON THE RAMPAGE?

Stupid people of Sri lanka Sunday, 04 February 2024 02:49 PM

The prison hospital is maintained by the poor tax payers money, this crap did a crime to the people and now spending that tax payers money. Why are the people just reading this article and doing nothing. Why not round up the prison hospital and the doctor who issued fake sick certificate to withdraw. As long as the people just wait without doing anything, then how the system the system will change. Did u not see the people of France how they acted against the government when they don't listen to the public issues. When are you going to wake up and stop this nonsense.

    Citizen Sunday, 04 February 2024 02:53 PM

The public can tell in advance every next step when a minister is arrested. As the public well aware of these politicians drama and country law and order. When this going to change? If the ministers not be punished then how and when they are going to change? Law and order has become a joke in Sri Lanka

    DOT Sunday, 04 February 2024 03:24 PM

Fomer Health Minister has mis understood ;National Health is his welth !

    Sunil Sunday, 04 February 2024 03:50 PM

Treat him with the medicines that were imported during his period

    Gune Sunday, 04 February 2024 04:07 PM

This SL must be the joke of the whole word. Why are others put in prisons not sent to Prison hospital?

Give him substandard pills Sunday, 04 February 2024 04:23 PM

If so, he is not fit to hold a position in parliament. Is this sickness called Prisnocitis?

Jungiwathie Panamure Sunday, 04 February 2024 05:23 PM

Hope will not come out as poor patients!

    Mahesh Sunday, 04 February 2024 05:25 PM

Can we try the same substandard medicines that he imported previously on him and see whether it works on him or not?

    MarkD Sunday, 04 February 2024 05:29 PM

Treat him with the same fkin medicine he brought down.... nasty man

    Pusa Sunday, 04 February 2024 05:36 PM

Let’s hope he gets some of his own “medicine”…lol

    KE(HE)LIYA Sunday, 04 February 2024 06:43 PM

Dr. who is signing the recommendation for the prison hospital must be remanded before remanding any politicians

    Stanley Sunday, 04 February 2024 07:41 PM

Name the Doctor so we know who he is

Tissa Fernando Sunday, 04 February 2024 07:44 PM

Hospital admission was expected, from the hospital he will go to a more comfortable accommodation in the prison like that is available for Duminda Silva.

    VJ Sunday, 04 February 2024 08:19 PM

If our health system needs to be fixed, make it mandatory for all government servants and ministers to seek medical attention only in government hospitals. Then the robberies taking place in private hospitals will also cease. Prison hospitals should be equipped to treat prisoners. The man should retire if his health is failing.

Rohini Wijetilleke Sunday, 04 February 2024 09:13 PM

The doctor who is taking care of the ex minister should be re - evaluated for his credentials . May be both the doctor and his patient need psychiatric care.

    Navalanka Sunday, 04 February 2024 11:15 PM

This was expected by the sympathetic voters.- Either a five star hotel with bar facilities or VVIP section of the prison hospital, away from the other prisoners, because the Hon. minister needs comfort while under arrest and release practice of the Judiciary of Sri Lanka. Case of course will get thrown out of the court windows at the next hearing and some poor CID guy will lose his job for insulting the Hon. minister of wrong doing and the President will offer a public apology, blaming the Indian Pharmaceutical Co. calling it a political stunt

    Patcitz Sunday, 04 February 2024 11:42 PM

We do not know whether CORRUPT DISEASE for which, has any medicine produced in the world.

    Aquarius Monday, 05 February 2024 12:04 AM

What a bxxxxy joke! Disgusting, but this was predicted. Healthy politicians fall sick when they are found guilty and sent to prison. The doctor who recommended is part of the corrupt higher echelon trying to keep him away from prison. As we all know this can happen only in mother Lanka.

    Keliya Monday, 05 February 2024 05:29 AM

Why no murder charges? People were killed.

raj soma Monday, 05 February 2024 08:21 AM

Hello!! this is a tactic all these Politicians play for better facilities and comfort..Please go back and review how many ministers have done this..More over they go to Singapore for treatments because our doctors are not qualified . I suppose the cases need to be reviewed by panel of 3 Doctors before such are allowed to do so.

FORTUNE TELLER Monday, 05 February 2024 08:57 AM

I predict he will be flying overseas for medical treatment and vanish into THIN AIR from there.

    Anthony. R Monday, 05 February 2024 11:59 AM

GMOA over to you!! Won't be surprised even if he is flown to Singapore for further treatment. Anything is possible with the powers they have. Learnered doctors, is your conscious clear.????? Considering the crime he did.

    A Good Citizen Monday, 05 February 2024 12:11 PM

There is a florist right Infront of the hospital waiting for him !!!

    Aquarius Monday, 05 February 2024 12:48 PM

It's the best opportunity to get him to taste some of his own medicine!

    Bandu Monday, 05 February 2024 12:48 PM

Need to investigate this doctors recommendation. Get a second opinion. Why is when political crooks go to jail, they rest in hospitals? even the prison system is corrupted by politicians.

    Ranjan Monday, 05 February 2024 01:24 PM

The very first comment given by Nilmini Welivita praising Keheliya must be definitely a MR supporter. She is off her mind

    sam Monday, 05 February 2024 05:32 PM

He was not sick when arrested, what happened?

Tissa Fernando Monday, 05 February 2024 11:27 PM

His prostate probably got enlarged all of a sudden

    Ari Monday, 05 February 2024 11:00 PM

Since he is in hospital, let's administer some of the substandard drugs he is said to have imported. He shouldn't fear ...

    A SLPP Supporter Tuesday, 06 February 2024 11:06 AM

Keheliya Rambukwella is a National Hero and should be the Presidential candidate for SLPP.

    sam Tuesday, 06 February 2024 12:48 PM

    Criminals fall ill when sentenced.

    K Renganathan Wednesday, 07 February 2024 07:49 AM

How come these guys fall hospitals-sick immediately on being imprisoned?
