Colombo, Feb 07 (Daily Mirror) - A Kazakhstan national died, while four Russian nationals were rescued after separate drowning incidents in the Southern Province yesterday.
The victim, a Kazakhstan citizen, drowned off the Bentota beach after being swept away by strong waves. Local residents rescued him and rushed him to the Balapitiya Hospital, but he was pronounced dead upon admission.
The Bentota police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
In a separate incident, three Russian nationals, including a 27-year-old woman, drowned while bathing off the Hikkaduwa beach in the morning. Police lifeguards rescued them.
In addition, a 38-year-old Russian national was rescued by a police lifeguard when he nearly drowned off the Ahungala beach.
