Leading drug dealer M.N. Mohamed Imran, alias Kanjipaani Imran, was remanded until September 20 by Colombo Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne today for threatening a police officer over the phone, Police Spokesman Ruwan Gunasekera said.

Kanjipaani Imran was charged for threatening the officer-in-charge of the Crimes Division of the Keselwatte Police Station during a telephone call.

SP Gunasekera said he was arrested under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA).

The Colombo Chief Magistrate ordered to send a voice sample of Kanjipaani Imran to the government analyst. (Farook Thajudeen)

I am surprised at this arrest or reason for arrest. I travel by bus and the number people who get insulted and threatened by bus crews. Yes we have to look for that non existence invisible hand for help.

Wasn't he remanded for 6 years about two weeks ago? Why would there be a need to arrest him if he was already in prison?

What is he going to be charged on. Is it for drug dealing or for threatening an office. How long till he is released to continue his drug business.

I thought he was remanded after being brought from Dubai. Later he was sentenced to 6 years rigorous imprisonment for possession of cannabis or something. Now they say he has been remanded for threatening a police officer. What's going on?
