Colombo, July 17 (Daily Mirror) - Due to the heavy traffic congestion and logistical challenges anticipated in Kandy during the annual Esala Perahera, the Kandy Zonal Education Office has announced that schools in the area will be closed for the second term holiday from July 29 to August 4.
The Esala Perahera, one of Sri Lanka’s most significant cultural and religious festivals, will take place from July 30 to August 9.
Accordingly, second-term holidays for government and government-assisted Sinhala and Tamil schools in the zone will be from August 8 to August 17, while Muslim schools will observe their holidays from August 20 to August 24.
In a special circular issued to school principals, the Zonal Education Office stated that selected schools will be used as accommodation for security personnel between July 29 and August 7.
Zonal Education Director has instructed all principals to submit a plan to compensate for the missed school days, including whether extra classes will be held. Principals have also been asked to clarify whether it is necessary to extend school holidays to include August 5, 6, and 7.
