Colombo, August 20 (Daily Mirror) - Former IGP Deshabandu Thennakoon has been arrested by the CID a short while ago on the charges of aiding and abetting those who attacked peaceful protesters at Galle Face in 2022, by failing to carry out his duties.

He was arrested at his residence in Mirihana and would be produced in court.

Apart from the DIG post, has this guy lost benefits attached to the position (or his service) due to removal? For an example is he still receiving the pension and other privileges?

Deshabandu was all powerful that time as he was after Rajapaksa family. He did not hesitate to carryout any illegal orders given. Today he is facing the music. Rajapaksas cannot help him in anyway and that is the reality. This is a good eyeopener for all government servants (not only to Police) not to carryout any illegal orders of superiors or politicians. Since of late we often see senior public servants being remanded with politicians whom they helped

This man was acting at the behest of those who made use of him. Why only him whilst others are still free living in government owned palaces? He should tell the authorities the truth behind his actions and not be a scapegoat.

Any government officer who becomes a political stooge will have to face severe sequences. Once his leaders are defeated. During the Aragalaya This man behaved very maliciously. He personally intervened to manhandle the innocent and unarmed protesters. He acted like a strong stalwart of the SLPP. Now he has been flabbergasted. Nobody is advocating him. This is a very good lesson for the high ranking government officers who are still on duty
