Colombo, Jan. 4 (Daily Mirror) - The 60th National Judo Championships, conducted by the Sri Lanka Judo Federation (SLJF) will be held on January 12 and 13 at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium, Colombo.
Over 450 men and women competitors are set to participate in this tournament. All national-level competitors are expected to compete at this event and those outstanding judokas will be selected for the 2024 national pool, sources from the SLJF revealed yesterday.
A total of 54 competitors are already in the 2023 national pool while Rajitha Pushpakumara, who secured ninth place at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games, has left for Italy for training in preparation for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, France.
Pushpakumara is set to participate in a couple of international tournaments in an attempt to qualify for the Paris Olympic Games, with the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka presenting a monthly allowance of Rs. 100,000 for his training. (SP)
