Judgment in citizenship case against Diana postponed to July 25

The Court of Appeal today postponed to July 25 to deliver its judgment regarding the writ petition filed seeking an order declaring State Minister of Tourism Diana Gamage as not qualified to be a Member of Parliament since she is a British citizen.

The judgment regarding this petition was to be delivered today (6). However, the Court of Appeal's two-judge-bench comprising Justice (President) Nissanka Bandula Karunaratne and Justice M.A.R. Marikkar announced that the judgment regarding this petition would be delivered on July 25.

Social activist Oshala Herath filed the petition seeking an order in the nature of a Writ of Quo Warranto declaring that Diana Gamage is not qualified to be a Member of Parliament and is thus not entitled to hold office as an MP. (Lakmal Sooriyagoda)

The Judiciary is an absolute in the country. The fact that this woman is a British citizen has been proved beyond doubt. Why is it taking so long to finalise this case. Is it due to pressure from those in the ruling party. What reason did the Judiciary attribute to the postponement of the decision from June to July? This is an absolute farce.

What is so complicated on this judgement ? If the judges can't read, ask questions and understand the facts/situation, they should serve at the local 'Samathamandalaya' to get some experience.

We have some of the sweetest judges in the world. In Shashi Weerawansa case the judge postponed the case because this honest poor lady needs to recuperate and rest at home after a bout of flue. The courts are so considerate and believe me this is not at all because these Magistrates have become the hench-aiyas of the system.

The justice system in this country has become a big joke and a farce. Lopsided totally and incredibly biased. A poor man stealing a Coconut is jailed, while politicians and VIP crooks get away with millions. Not saying that stealing a Coconut is NOT a crime, just a comparison of how the judiciary operates in this country.
