Colombo, April 21 (Daily Mirror) - The Joint Opposition today questioned the legality behind the decision to set up a trial-at-bar to take up the case against former President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
Former Minister Professor G.L. Peiris, who raised the issue on behalf of the Joint Opposition, said no one but the Chief Justice could decide on a trial-at-bar.
“It is the Chief Justice who should decide and announce the decision to set up a trial-at-bar. The Chief Justice has not made any such announcement to this date,” he said.
In addition, he said the Attorney General should also be given a free hand to handle court cases.
