Colombo, June 18 (Daily Mirror) - Oscar and Emmy Award-winning British actor Jeremy Irons arrived in Sri Lanka last night (17) to star in Cage Bird, an internationally-backed film directed by veteran Sri Lankan filmmaker Chandran Rutnam.

A spokesperson for the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau confirmed that this marks the first visit by a Hollywood A-list actor of Irons’ calibre for a film production in over 12 years.

Irons, globally known for his performances in The Lion King, Reversal of Fortune, and The Borgias, arrived from Mumbai aboard SriLankan Airlines flight UL-144, which touched down at Bandaranaike International Airport at 11:00 PM.

The production of Cage Bird is expected to significantly enhance Sri Lanka’s profile as a growing film tourism destination. The involvement of internationally acclaimed actors such as Irons is seen as a valuable opportunity to attract global attention to the country’s filmmaking potential and scenic locations.

Upon his arrival, Irons was welcomed by Harendra Wijewardene, Deputy Director of the Tourism Promotion Bureau, and Chaminda Munasinghe, Assistant Director of the International Filmmaking and Promotion Division.
