Jailor arrested over Ganemulla Sanjeewa murder released on bail

Colombo, April 30 (Daily Mirror) - Jailor Manoj Udayakantha, who was in remand custody over allegations of aiding and abetting the murder of underworld figure Ganemulla Sanjeewa, was ordered to be released on bail by Colombo High Court Judge Manjula Thilakaratne today.

The bail order was issued following submissions by Counsel Suranga Perera, who appeared on behalf of the suspect.

Court was informed that while the jailor was responsible for the custody of the deceased, there was no direct evidence presented to prove that he had supported or facilitated the murder.

Considering these submissions, the judge noted that the evidence did not establish active involvement or support in the killing and thus ordered his release.

Accordingly, the High Court directed the Colombo Magistrate’s Court to release the suspect on two personal surety bails of Rs. 2.5 million each and a cash bail of Rs. 75,000.

This officer has luckily been released on bail. However we can’t rely on the prison officers they manipulate whatever chances that are available. Certain prison officers are racketeers. They are almost depending on the underworld business tycoons and the drug traffickers. The leading drug traffickers who are sustaining the jail terms are cronies of the certain prison officers. Therefore under the clean Sri Lanka project the president should prioritise to clean both police and the department of prisons

Some body lives in same place with same characters imply all those hug and being well close to each other, neglecting all those positions and also situations. But there are compulsive barrier between officers and imates to be saved. But all of us are human being although save our career and the duty should be complied. I have some experience on this due to my former post, I have gone to Prisons to hand over some culprits that arrested for crucial violations of law after the orders of Magistrates and some illegal activities have been seen. What to do? Patience s first.
