Jaffna family starts walking as protest demanding permanent residence from President

Colombo, April 7 (Daily Mirror) - A young family from Jaffna begun a protest walk, requesting permanent arrangements for their residence. The family of a 7-year-old boy, a 6-year-old girl, the husband and the wife, began their walk from Achuveli in Jaffna last evening (06 April).

The family which had been staying at a bus stand for the past few weeks due to this issue, stated that they will continue their walk until their request reaches the President's attention.

However, officials mentioned that the family had met the Governor of the Northern Province a few days ago, and based on the Governor's instructions, steps are being taken to provide them with a plot of land.

Why have two kids if no house? I would like to check the work history of the guy. I only feel sorry for the kids. A farm hand is paid between Rs 2000-3000 a day in Jaffna with lunch, tea etc. Starting monthly salary with food for a worker is Rs. 40000.00. Still they wont work but chit chat and spend time on phone. Soon all will exit farming. Free handouts and taxes on the working by this socialist government will kill the economy soon and we will all pay a heavy price for it sooner than later.

A SOLUTION TO IMPROVE THE LIVES OF THE ESTATE WORKERS AND THOSE WHO DO NOT HAVE A PERMANANT HOME, CONSIDERING THEIR PAST GENERATIONS HAVE BEEN RESIDENT IN THE COUNTRY WORKING ON MAINLY TEA ESTATES AND CAN HARDLY PUT A SQUARE MEAL ON THEIR TABLES.

Plentiful private land is still being occupied by the Armed forces and yet this young family with small kids is asking for a piece of land to live and work. The state has the responsibility to look after it's citizens from whom they ask for votes from time to time.

I’m confused with this story ?? Are they actually from Sri Lanka ? If so wouldn’t they already be permanent residents or are they from India and want to live here permanently in which case I assume there is a process to achieve it . You can’t just protest to get it you follow the rules that everyone else has to.
