Former Sri Lankan skipper Mahela Jayawardene said that it’s time for Sri Lanka bowlers to show the class and batters to show who they are on the field, ahead of the T-20 match between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh at the Asia Cup today.

He made these remarks on Tweeter in response to a comment made by Bangladesh Coach Khaled Mahmud.

Responding to a statement made by Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka that Bangladesh has only two world class bowlers compared to Afghanistan, Bangladesh Coach Khaled Mahmud said yesterday that he doesn’t think Sri Lanka has any world class bowlers.

“I don’t know why Dasun Shanaka said such a thing. I heard that he said Bangladesh does not have world class bowlers except Shakib Al Hassan and Mustafizur. In fact, I do not see a single world class bowler in the Sri Lankan camp,” Mahmud said during a press conference on yesterday.

He said at least Bangladesh have two world class bowlers. “But Sri Lanka does not even have anyone who bears the quality of Shakib and Mustafizur in their side,” Mahmud added.

“Looks like it’s time for Sri Lanka's bowlers to show the class and batters to show who they are on the field," Mahela tweeted.

I think it's time for Dasun Shanaka to keep quiet and do his job. He's neither bowling nor batting, nor having proper field placings. Poor in every way. It's time for him to show up on the field or maybe the selectors will have to take a decision regarding his place in the side. We can talk of that match against Australia where he scored 59 runs in 18 deliveries to win the match, but is that all he has to show for? In that case, that match was just a flash in the pan.

Dear Man, Afghanistan may be a formidable side but playing test cricket is a different ball game and these lads from Afghanistan are good "Elle" hitters and excels in the shorter versions. They have played a handful of tests and won just two against Ireland

Decades ago England and South Africa were great, then came along us, who showed them at times. Now new nations are emerging, and our novelty of being exceptional from time to time wanes. We can't hold our hearts onto successes of the past anymore. India has 1 billion people even if similarly impoverished like us. It would be silly to think our nation can produce as many capable cricketers against their population base in the long term. Bangladesh in effect say provocative things because they are rising, and we are stepping stone for them for their showing for eventual greatness. Bangladesh is talking up about how they wont' be like is economic crisis. And because they being a bigger country are better funded for cricket. Occasional capable player can't beat the tide of players coming through from our neighboring countries. It is joke to keep having too high hopes about it too.
