Necessary instructions have been given to reduce the prices of bread and short-eats by Rs. 10, Trade Minister Nalin Fernando said.
He told the media that a kilo of wheat flour which was priced at Rs. 430 is now sold at Rs. 160 to 170 in the market.
The Minister also said wheat flour has been declared as an essential commodity to prevent any shortages and price hikes and added that prices of bakery products can be reduced on the assurance that wheat flour prices will not increase again.
The Minister also said a discussion was held with relevant sectors about controlling the increase of chicken prices and said the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) is taking necessary action regarding the matter. (Ajith Siriwardana)
