Inquiry over verbal abuse at Diana Gamage in Parliament: Dy. Speaker

Deputy Speaker Ajith Rajapaksa today said an inquiry would be conducted on the incident in Paiament on Thursday where MP Diana Gamage came under verbal criticism by SJB MP Nalin Bandara Jayamaha.

Deputy Speaker assured an inquiry when MPs Kokila Gunawardene and Samanpriya Hearth who called for action against MP Jayamaha.

"No action was taken against MP Tissakuttiarachchi who abused MP Rohini Kaviratne on an earlier occasion. Therefore we request some action at least on this instance," MP Gunawardene said.

Chief Opposition Whip Lakshman Kiriella said the MPs who accuse MP Jayamaha should explain as to which standing order Mr. Jayamaha violated. (Yohan Perera)

Action should be taken against Diana Garage for her desparaging remarks against the opposition leader.The action should neutral and action and the rule should be the same for ROHINI kaviratna abuse .Then we know there is real democracy.Will be watching the proceeding with interest.My vote goes to the party that has addressed the issue.

Ms. Gunawardana has heroically come to the rescue of her own MP when, as she herself admits, she and others just stood and watched when Mrs Kaviratne was abused with language so vulgar. If that was allowed to pass, why should Diana's incident be further investigated? - All abuses deserve condemnation.

I watched the debate with disgust when MP Diana Gamage stood up to defend her British citizenship in some language and attitude not befitting anyone in parliament. She was a total disgrace and was the perfect "basket woman" in the wrong place. To defend her illegal status in parliament, she came up with anything and everything but never mentioned her true nationality. She should be kicked out, but the pohottuwas are trying to put the blame on the opposition for questioning her. What a country.

What is sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander. If a precedent has been created in the past and no inquiry has taken place the Parliament in the eyes of the public tantamount to Partiality. Any decision is sacred since it alone possesses legislative supremacy and thereby ultimate power over all other political bodies so impartiality should be of a high standard.

She is the one triggerd the argument, scolding everyone, SJB, social media also mentioning names. She took the parliament debate to her own wish to defend herself. This incident and the previous one directed to a SJB female MP cannot be compared although SLPP blamed SJB MP for saying rolling or tuning that meant 'peralanawa'. Would like to see the outcome and in particularly the Speaker
