Colombo, August 31 (Daily Mirror) - Indonesian police officers who played a key role in the arrest of underworld figure Kehelbaddara Padme and four other Sri Lankan organised criminals were felicitated and presented with awards at the Bandaranaike International Airport.

The officers, along with Sri Lankan police personnel who participated in the joint operation, were commended by Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs Ananda Wijepala and IGP Priyantha Weerasuriya for their contribution.

The five suspects, arrested in Indonesia on August 27, were brought back to Sri Lanka last night via the Katunayake Airport. The Indonesian officers who led the operation, together with their Sri Lankan counterparts, were officially received at the airport by Minister Wijepala and the IGP.

Or ,another way of looking at it, could it be a setup to transfer these criminals to a safer country later because Indonesian authorities arrested them and alerted our guys so our guys got them here quickly , the Public disclosure of police officers indicate that they have confidence that criminals will not harm them at a later stage because they actually rescued them from deadly prisons of Indonesia. Otherwise, under normal circumstances, they do not show the identity of police officers involved. Or it could be for cheap publicity?

On behalf of all SL people, we salute both groups of SL police officers who have worked hard to achieve this victory! This is indeed a great victory which have never done by former political leaders as they were dependent on such people. Now follow-up all former politicains who ha d close connections and take action against them! They may shout this as political reven and come forward with innocent people/voters giving Rs2000, bottle of arrack and a lunch packet!

Regardless of their notoriety these are just henchmen of local politicians who gave them all the political cover to conduct their business. . Prosecuting these politicians is the most important step. So far very little is on the show when it comes to prosecuting major crimes such as central bank robbery, taking billions of rupees from state banks and ship disaster off Negombo coast. They have protected themselves with all the legal loopholes and destruction of legal documents with the help of police and judiciary. The government relying on them for combating past crimes is like asking mother of the thief for evidence
