Indictments served on Lakshman Yapa over alleged misuse of BOI funds

Colombo, June 30 (Daily Mirror) - The Colombo High Court today served indictments on former Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena and former Director General of the Board of Investment (BOI), Jayanta Edirisinghe, over the alleged misuse of BOI funds in 2014.

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) filed the indictments against the two accused, alleging that they caused a financial loss of over Rs. 1.74 million to the government by placing advertisements in 11 newspapers using BOI funds.

The advertisements were published to mark the second anniversary of then-President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s second Presidential term on November 19, 2014.

Colombo High Court Judge Pradeep Abeyrathne ordered that the two accused be released on bail, with two sureties of Rs. 1 million each.

The case was fixed for pre-trial conference on August 20.
