"The UPI payment gateway will be signed. And I think both our leaders will connect online which will help increase tourism," the Minister said speaking to WION diplomatic correspondent Sidhant Sibal in Perth.

Unlike Pakistan or Bangladesh , Sri Lanka has never been part of India. When India was under Muslim occupation for one thousand years , Sri Lanka was thriving as a free Independent nation with great civilisations. Then when Britain invaded South Asia, it could have easily brought India and Sri Lanka under one administration, but the British realised that the character and psychology of both the Indians and Sri Lankans were so different and it decided rule both the countries separately. Now, these third rate Sri Lankan Politicians are bending over backwards to please the Indians and bringing Sri Lanka increasingly under Indian domain. What right these Sri Lankan politicians have to “sell” us all to the Indians. We the Jaffna Boys would NEVER ALLOW Indian Involvement in Sri Lanka, whatever the consequences may be.

Jaffna boys is history now ..get a life and move on

Whether we like or not within next 10-20 years India will be a major economic power in the world. All western countries realise this fact and developing / improving relationships with India now. For us being a neighbour it is a huge advantage. If we don't use this opportunity we will be like Cuba staying near USA or North Korea staying near South Korea with out any developments.

Bravo to Jaffna Boys, man , I am with you 100% percent. Anura , Namal and Sajith are competing with each other to offer our assets to India at the lowest price.

    Great or stupid comments

    Banda Sunday, 11 February 2024 07:16 AM

I completely agree with you. We need investments. We have to maintain good relations with india. But it should not have to be in this way. We should remember that we have two different paths to develop.ent.

@Jaffnaboys, seems port city sale to china is very independent action for lanka. Soon China is going to buy you all, so no option other than backing India. Atleast you will not need to learn chinese.

Do you know the history of India? Why Sri Lanka is a majority Buddhist country? After what Sri Lanka went through recently (several screw ups, President running away, China debt, economic meltdown,....), you still have anti-India attitude? Wake up man before it is too late.

True Jaffna Man Sunday, 11 February 2024 09:36 AM

Why are you dragging Jaffna into this? Why don't you reveal your true identity, which is from South?

Saurjit Paul Sunday, 11 February 2024 09:37 AM

@jaffana boys : If Sri Lankans want to deprive their citizen from uplifting themselves from quality education like IIT, deny getting access for cutting edge technology of UPI for transparent transactions which will discourage keeping cash economy.. then my friend u are most welcome to fight for your citizen.. Indians don't want to include Sri Lanka to be part of Indian continent.

Our future president whom 6.9 million foolish people will vote in will ensure Indian participation, his ex to be already concluded 5 day orientation. Power to the people!/

Ranil is taking Sri Lanka too close to India. There is a limit to connectivity with India. Learn from Maldives.

Our 'bankrupt', useless politicians got nothing to offer, except to beg, steal... and preach of their achievements.

    Fred Sunday, 11 February 2024 02:59 AM

Signing away our sovereignty? Food, energy, money supply. Bankruptcy or lack of dedicated leadership?

    Fred Sunday, 11 February 2024 03:34 AM

Paradise on a platter, that's that is how the Indians would be viewing it. For a few billion dollars in aid the Return on Investment must be huge. That's only one interpretation. There can be others, philanthropy, good neighbourliness, it's all in the stars (fate) Good luck SL may the Gods be kind

IIT Madras branch in Sri Lanka? Can your government support the existing universities to deliver to their full potential before look for the foreign players? Our Unis are in severe short of funding.

    Ganesh Sunday, 11 February 2024 11:36 AM

IIT admissions are one of the toughest entrance exams. Good luck to those who succeed, fortune500 companies head hunt here.

    Dee Sunday, 11 February 2024 12:32 PM

And allow them to continue striking supported by extremist groups trying to grab power, all at the taxpayers expense!

    Mohan Sunday, 11 February 2024 06:54 AM

It will have been useful if the reporter had included a description of what the UPI is and how it benefits Sri Lanka. A report that is least informative.

    Bandu Sunday, 11 February 2024 06:59 AM

Where is SL universal payment system? Sadly the dim witted politicians, are useless.

    Ravi Sunday, 11 February 2024 08:45 AM

Jaffna boys should understand that coexistence is very important. People in Lanka have migrated from India over few thousand years. Each state in India is different, so is srilanka. Cooperation is the way forward. There is no other neighbour who has helped you in times of crisis.

Kandiah Balendran Sunday, 11 February 2024 11:14 AM

All Tamils are originally from India.

    Sivalingam Sunday, 11 February 2024 11:16 AM

Tamil homeland is in India, all Tamils came to SL from India (sooner or later).

    Raj Sunday, 11 February 2024 11:43 AM

You idiot, according to science , humans evolved in Africa and then spread all around the world. So according to your logic, we all should be called Africans.

Avery Markham Sunday, 11 February 2024 11:17 AM

It's better for SL to link with America. America is the biggest customer of SL.

As a Norwegian former NGO and currently as a tourist in Colombo, from my perspective the comment from Jaffna Boys makes proper sense based on history. So, how come so many Sri Lankans are angrily posting comments against Jaffna Boys, there is something strange going on, for sure .

INDIA HAS NO INTENTION TO TAKE OVER OUR COUNTRY FULL STOP Sunday, 11 February 2024 12:32 PM

JAFFNA BOY YOU HAVE MISSED THE MAIN POINT IF THE BRITISH WERE RULING TODAY, THEY WOULD HAVE MADE THE SAME STATEMENT AS THE PRESIDENT HAS DONE ABOVE.

Mhamed Senthipal Monday, 12 February 2024 10:37 AM

You and Wal Aliya and go on several pin trips!

    KumaraT Monday, 12 February 2024 03:07 PM

Before Sri Lanka, several other nations such as France, Mauritius, Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Oman, Qatar, USA, Saudi Arabia, UAE, UK and many more have already onboarded to UPI. None of these nations are bleating about selling out to India. All of them hurried to join the UPI bandwagon. Indians are doing a favour by offering UPI even if the purchasing capacity of Sri Lankans is not worth the effort. They are just being good neighbour. Such a loser mentality is the reason Sri Lanka shall remain dependent on external aid for basic survival. BTW when is SL returning the previous round of loan from India?
