New Delhi, April 22 (Indian Express) - The Supreme Court Monday permitted the medical termination of a nearly 30-week pregnancy of a 14-year-old rape survivor, setting aside the Bombay High Court order declining the minor’s mother’s plea in the case.
“We will allow the medical termination since she is 14 and it is rape case and this is an exceptional case,” the Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud was quoted as saying by Bar and Bench.
The SC bench also directed the Dean of Lokmanya Tilak Hospital in Mumbai to set up a team of doctors for the abortion, and ruled that the State will bear all medical and transportation expenses for the procedure.
The bench stated that the minor should get transport arrangements and any medical care, if needed, post termination.
Under law, the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act (MTP Act) allows the termination of pregnancy up to 20 weeks on the advice of one doctor. If a pregnancy is 20-24 weeks, the right to seek abortion is determined by two registered medical practitioners as an exception, but only under certain categories.

30 week pregnancy being allowed to be aborted by doctors is murder. In no other country they would allow this to happen, a 30 week pregnancy has already produced a fully fledged human . The UN should bring sanction against the Indian Judiciary and Doctors. The child could have been accepted in any orphanage in Europe.

Would you want to live in an orphanage not knowing your parents and being a child of rape victim? With the current turmoil and global warming issues getting worst in most parts of the world, better to terminate the pregnancy. Anyway it wasn’t a planned pregnancy and that’s my opinion!

Great decision. Kudos. A woman's body belongs to her and it's her decision what to do with it in such instances. Second-trimester D

Pity. A student told the teacher that he was born in 3 months to avoid a punishment but teacher took the stick and made him born again in 9 months.

My Opinion - May be you should lead by example and be the aborted baby for once when they hack you to death piece by piece inside the womb
Shame on you Tuesday, 23 April 2024 04:56 AM
It was his opinion. He has every right to his opinion; so do you. But it's disgusting to see you getting personal. Shame on you.

These Indian supporting trolls , good for nothing low lives on this planet and living only to defend India and paid in Indian rupees for their services , should have all been chopped to pieces by “ great Indian doctors” inside their mothers wombs when they had become humans after 30 weeks.

How many who advocate anti abortion donate half their wealth to orphanages? At least to the medical procedures and medicines? Don't force the poor children to visit places of worship or offices, instead pour your money into their accounts. Unless you can pay them today's worth of Rs 50,000 (increasing every year by 10%) every month till their natural demise into each life you "save" from abortion, then please shut up front and back. This bill should be passed, we'll see a much improved support from all
