Independence Day sees major promotion drive in Sri Lanka Army

Sri Lanka has no active war now. All tri-forces are considered to be functioning only in ceremonial duties. A country that went bankrupt and is barely surviving with foreign aid, and billions of dollars borrowed at high-interest rates, cannot afford to maintain large-scale tri-forces. Sri Lanka has no rivals or threats from within, like the 26-year-long civil war with the LTTE, so why does Sri Lanka need to have a large Army, Navy, and Air Force?
