Colombo, April 9 (Daily Mirror)- A Parliamentary Committee has revealed that CCTV camera equipment that had been purchased at a cost of Rs. 2.1 million to be fixed at the internal premises of the Immigration and Emigration head office had been stored for six years without being fixed.
This was revealed when the Immigration and Emigrations Department was summoned before the Committee on Public Accounts (COPA) recently.
It was further revealed that the equipment had been purchased in 2017 and that however, all the equipment required to install CCTV cameras had not been purchased.
The officials who were responsible for the purchase have been transferred by now.
COPA Chairman Lasantha Alagiyawanna instructed to appoint a committee headed by an additional secretary of the Public Security Ministry and take steps to install the CCTV cameras and submit a progress report before May 15.
The Chairman pointed out that some officials were reluctant for the installation of CCTV cameras.
The Committee also expressed displeasure over the delay in issuing E-passport for the last four years.
May Not Be Compatible By Now Tuesday, 09 April 2024 06:27 PM
The cameras may be obsolete by now. Won’t be worth while installing them as the new equipment which is needed for the CCTV’s to function may not be compatible.

I think Sri Lanka is one of the highest ranked corrupted countries in the world with dishonest and a lazy and uneducated population. Facts are stubborn but we have to accept the truth.
DOUBT PURCHASING THE OMITTED EQUIPMENT REQUIRED TO FULLY INSTALL THE CCTV CAMERA PURCHASED FOR 2.1 MILLION WILL BE FULLY FITTED AND IN OPERATIONAL BY THE 15TH MAY 24 Wednesday, 10 April 2024 09:07 AM
SACK ALL THOSE WHO WERE RESPONSIBLE DIRECTLY AND OR INDIRECTLY IN THE INSTALLATION AND OR PURCHASE OF THE EQUIPMENT AS IT APPEARS FROM THE ABOVE ARTICLE THAT SOME EQUIPMENT HAS BEEN LEFT OUT PREVENTING THE INSTALLATION.
