The information technology (IT) sector can resolve the problems of the national economy, and for that there should be a policy regarding the digital economy, the Computer Society of Sri Lanka (CSSL) Treasurer, Indika De Soysa said.
While announcing the dates for the 41st National IT Conference (NITC), he further said that India, Bangladesh, Thailand and Singapore have policies regarding the digital economy, but Sri Lanka does not have such a policy so far.
Therefore, plans are currently being made to contact the President and appoint a committee to come up with a policy programme to build the digital economy.
He said the aim is to make this programme successful in 2030.
The aim of this is to fill the vacancies in the field of information technology in Sri Lanka, empower children through this field of information technology from the basic education level, and thereby empower the country's economy.
"This arrangement is a policy arrangement, and it is an arrangement that does not change due to changes in politicians. This programme will be carried out under the initiative of all the members, ministers in Parliament, the Minister of Education and the President," he said.
Meanwhile, when preparing policies for the country, the policies of the education system should be changed according to the developments of the IT industry, CSSL president Dr. Ajantha Athukorale said.
The attitudes of the people should also change, and professional IT teachers and lecturers must be assigned. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)
