Colombo, Feb 07 (Daily Mirror) - The imported hydrated lime with a high content of chromimum has not been released to any water purification plants in the country, Minister of Urban Development Anura Karunathilake informed Parliament today.

The Minister who responded to the allegation by MP D.V. Chanaka on Thursday said the public can drink tap water without fear as hydrated lime with high content of chromimum has not been used to purify water.

eople should talk about things they know. WHO daily requirement of Chromium per day is around 10mcg daily for a 10 year old and a bit higher for adults. The Chromium content if any in the hydraulic lime, will never introduce even a closer amount of Chromium into tap water. Take note that Chlorine is also a chemical added to purify water. CL evaporates very fast after the water has been drawn from the supply. Fluoride is also added to water supply in North America, but it's value is being under debate. DO NOT worry. Filter and boil the water and drink as much as you can. DM should research the material they publish before creating chaos.
